About Me
Chelsea Blackwell, also known by their artistic name Astronym, is an illustrator and comic artist hailing from Texas and currently based in the vibrant DMV area. Drawing has been a part of their life since childhood, but it was during middle school, after discovering the wonderful world of manga, that they dove headfirst into the world of comics—and they've been passionate about it ever since.
Astronym is known for their bright colors, eccentric themes, and quirky, expressive characters. They have had the privilege of working with notable publishers like Scholastic, Oni Press, and Soaring Kite Books. Their debut graphic novel, Mr. Smartypants, marked a major milestone in their career, and they are also the colorist for Piggy: Permanent Detention and Piggy: Desert Nightmare for Scholastic, as well as Quincredible for Oni Press.
Astronym holds a BFA in Graphic Design with a Minor in Communication from the University of Houston Clear Lake. Their art is deeply influenced by their love for anime and film—they’re a devoted cinephile, which has played a significant role in shaping their creative work.
